About
I grew up playing Game Boys — DMG, Pocket, Color, Advance, up through the NDS Lite. Thousands of hours in my hands, then years in a storage bin.
In the winter of 2025, a few impressive modding posts pulled me back. I dug the old units out of storage and started trying my hand at more advanced mods. There’s a community out there breathing new life into these devices with custom shells, modern screens, and donor-board transplants — generous, well-documented, unexpectedly beautiful work. This site is my record of learning my way in: builds I’ve finished, lessons earned the hard way, and the people I’m trying to learn from.
What you’ll find here
- Journal — soldering as a beginner, told honestly. Failed attempts, troubleshooting, gear regrets.
- Builds — every handheld I’ve finished, grouped by family: Pockets, Lights, Colors, Advances / SPs, and even a Neo Geo Pocket Color.
- Resources — model comparisons, cartridge sourcing, ROM hack picks, and other reference posts.
How this site was built
I built this whole blog without writing any code by hand — using two tools:
- zero.xyz — the search engine for AI agents. It let my agent discover and call paid APIs on demand (image generation, data lookups, etc.) through a single wallet, instead of stitching together a dozen one-off integrations.
- Claude Code — Anthropic’s agentic coding tool. I’d describe what I wanted (“migrate my old document posts posts,” “rebuild the gallery as a comic-strip layout,” “fix the caption escaping”), and it would read the repo, make the edits, open a PR, and iterate with me until it shipped.
Migrating content from multiple sources, restoring the photo gallery with custom popups, and getting GitHub Pages deployed — all done in an afternoon, with the agents handling everything from parsing HTML exports to writing Jekyll templates.
